José A. Gutierrez is Corporate Director of
Technology at Emerson Electric, leading a wide range of technology activities
that include the use of wireless sensor networks in the industrial environment.
He received the B.S. degree in electronic engineering from Universidad Simón
Bolivar in
Caracas
,
Venezuela
, M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the
University
of
Milwaukee
–
Wisconsin
. Through his active membership at the IEEE LAN/MAN Standards committee, in 2000
Dr. Gutierrez became the Editor in-Chief of the IEEE 802.15 Working Group, Task
Group 4, focused in the development of Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks.
After the success of the 802.15.4 standard he supported the creation of the
ZigBee Alliance where from 2003 to early 2005 he worked as Program Manager.
Currently he is a member of the board of directors of the Wireless Industrial
Network Alliance and Chairman of the Networking Working Group of the ISA
SP100
committee developing a new standard for Industrial Wireless Networks.
Dr. Gutierrez has multiple
patents in the area of wireless personal and local area networks and author of
multiplicity of papers in the areas of automatic control, artificial
intelligence, and embedded systems, including a book on the IEEE 802.15.4
standard on low-rate wireless personal area networks. His next book 'Precision
Landmark Location for Machine Vision and Photogrammetry’ will be available in
October 2007.
